My goal is to improve the quality of life of every citizen in the City of Stockbridge.

I’m running not just to serve, but to listen, lead, and lift our community—because we deserve a representative

who sees the greatness

already here and

works to make it

even better.

Meet Gernita Johnson

Gernita Johnson is a proud native of Atlanta, Georgia, born at Grady Memorial Hospital to parents who were also raised in Atlanta. She grew up in the city and is a product of both the Atlanta Public Schools and Fulton County School Systems.

She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, and a Master of Social Work degree from Clark Atlanta University.

Professionally, Gernita has built a diverse career, holding positions in banking, finance, and law with well-known institutions, corporations, and law firms throughout the Atlanta area. Currently, she works in Behavioral and Mental Health with a respected corporation, where she is passionate about helping individuals facing behavioral health challenges, mental illness, and substance abuse. Over the years, she has also earned a wide range of certifications that strengthen her ability to serve others.

Gernita has been married to her husband, John Johnson, for 16 years. Together, they have two children and one bonus adult child. Their family made Stockbridge their home 15 years ago, and since then, she has loved, cared for, and invested in this community while watching it grow.

Deeply committed to service, Gernita is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, through the Psi Alpha Omega Chapter of Clayton and Henry Counties. Through her sorority and individually, she has been a dedicated volunteer—organizing food and clothing drives for the homeless and even providing shelter for the unhoused during the winter months.

Her civic and political involvement includes working on and managing several campaigns in Henry and Clayton Counties, giving her firsthand knowledge of community needs and government processes. While Gernita may be new to seeking elected office, she is not new to leadership. She is known for ensuring that every task is completed with integrity, accountability, and care.

With her proven record of service, professional expertise, and heart for people, Gernita Johnson is exactly what Stockbridge needs. Her vision is reflected in her platform, S.T.A.R. – Service, Transparency, Accountability, and Results.
